A Dhaka court today (July 12) granted a five-day remand for Md Titon Gazi, arrested in connection with the brutal murder of scrap metal trader Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, near Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in Old Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Giyas passed the order following a seven-day remand request filed by the police.

They alos said that extensive interrogation of Titon is necessary to uncover the full identities and addresses of both named and unidentified suspects.

The police said that through thorough questioning, they expect to reveal the sequence of events, planning, and preparation of the crime, as well as recover weapons and tools used in the incident.

Earlier today, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana granted remand to two other accused persons: Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, for five days, and Tarek Rahman Robin, for two days.

The incident occurred on July 9, when a group of assailants attacked Lal Chand with large chunks of concrete and beat him to death in broad daylight. The attack reportedly happened after Lal Chand refused to pay extortion money.
