DHAKA: A special court on BDR mutiny trial fixed February 2, 2011 for the next hearing on charge framing against 735 suspected mutineers of Sadar Rifles Battalion, after all of them were roped in the dock Monday.

The Special Court 6, led by BDR Director-General Major-General Rafiqul Islam, set the distant date after the accused were produced before the court in the morning.

Making his submissions before the court earlier in the day, prosecutor Lt Col Badrul Alam sought a date to be fixed for indictment of the accused.

The court then adjourned the trial proceedings until February 2. Submissions by ‘friend-of-accused’ aides to the mutiny suspects will also be heard on the indictment-hearing day.

Of the total, 437 personnel who were in service until now were arrested and produced along with the other arrested 298 before the court Monday according to the court order.

Later, Lt Col Badrul Alam, who is commander of Sadar Rifles Battalion, told reporters, “I told the accused that most of them will get mercy if some of them confess to having committed the crime. But I got no response.”
