7 villagers sent to jail for assisting police crossfire

NATORE: Seven people at Bamihal village in Singra of the district were sent to jail on Monday for assisting police during a crossfire.

A Natore court on Sunday sent an officer-in-charge including 10 other policemen of Singra Police Station to jail for the same incident.

The accused villagers are Selim, Hanif, Firoj, Amjad Hossain, Abdul Kuddus, Abdur Rashid and Mojibur.

District and Sessions Judge Abdul Majid passed the order rejecting the bail petition of the accused as they surrendered.

Police on July 23 in 2008 picked up Ansar Ali, son of Rajab Ali from his house at Singra upazila on July 23, 2008 and killed him on 26 July in the name of crossfire, local people alleged.

Later, Rajab Ali filed a case with the Court of Additional Chief Magistrate challenging the killing in crossfire.

An arrest warrant was issued against seven villagers on May 10.
