DHAKA: Condition of former BNP secretary-general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, who is undergoing treatment on artificial life support at the Square Hospital in the capital, aggravated slightly Friday, physicians said.

His personal physician Dr. Bazlul Gani Bhuiyan told banglanews24.bd that oxygen intake of Bhuiyan during the last 24 hours fell. “The oxygen-inhaling capacity of the BNP leader reduced to 30 to 35 per cent.”

The doctor said Bhuiyan is likely to undergo an operation to set a tube in his breathing tube to provide artificial life support Saturday and this would be done in discussion with his family members.

Mannan Bhuiyan went to Singapore for treatment of his lung on May 31 and he had been in the CCU at the Singapore National University Hospital since. He was brought back to Dhaka on July 7 and was admitted to the Square Hospital.

Bhuiyan was given eight rounds of chemotherapy there. After the last chemotherapy, he developed problem in normal breathing, forcing suspension of his cancer treatment.
