CHITTAGONG: A gang of at least 150 hooligans vandalized a residential hotel and a house following ownership conflict in Nandonkanon area of the port city early Friday.

Hotel sources and witnesses said the miscreants continued ransacking rooms of the United Hotel and the house from 3.30am to 10.30 in the morning.

Despite knocking several times, the duty police and Katowali Thana police remained silent, they alleged.

The hotel owner Hazi Badiur Rahman claimed that the assailants were Jamaat-Shibir cadres.

Police led by CPM District Commissioner Banaj Kumar Majumder, later, arrested six of the miscreants from the spot at about 11.30 am, sources said.

The arrested were identified as Mohammad Hossain, Shamsul Alam Bhuyan, Shahadat, Badshah Mia, Alamgir and Morshed.

Arrested Mohammad Hossain told banglanews24.com.bd, “We made an agreement of Tk 4.40 crore with the owner to give the hotel and house to a developer company on August 26, 2004. We vandalized the hotel as they are now reluctant to handover the lands to the developpers.”

Son of hotel owner Mostafa Kamal told banglanews24.com.bd, “They made the agreement focibly. Proceedings of case in this connection are on”, he added.

Kotwali thana OC Sakhawat Hossain said they vandalized the establishments as their money was blocked by the owners, but it was a wrong approach.
