Chittagong: Preparation for holding Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) election is being carried out as law enforcers Thursday started searching suspected individuals and vehicles setting up check posts in different points of the port city.

Police sources said, they have already set up the check posts at five points including three city gates Thursday morning. Fresh drives will also be launched within short time to recover firearms, they added.

Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police CMP (north) Banaj Kumar Majumder told Banglanews,” Police is taking all-out measures to stop access of injurious elements including illegal firearms and explosive, which could be used in committing crimes during the election.”

The police officers were directed to tighten security measures in important places, he added.

He also said, “Six-platoon police force would arrive here from the headquarters within a short time to conduct special drives to curb crimes by arresting terrorists and recovering firearms.”

The measures are being taken following a meeting attended by CMP high official while CMP Commissioner Mohammad Moniruzzaman was in chair.

Elections to the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will be held on June 17, Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda announced Tuesday.

According to the schedule announced, the last date for filing nominations is May 20, with the deadline for withdrawals set on June 1 and the scrutiny of the nominations to be held on May 22 and 23.
