DHAKA: A suspected criminal died Friday after his arrest by Rapid Action Battalion personnel in the capital a day before, police said.

The deceased was identified as Biplob, 38, hailed from Gupinathpur in Gopalganj district.

Uttara thana SI Kamrul Islam said they found Biplob after Juma prayers at RAB-1 office in Uttara area of the capital “in critical condition” and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later the duty doctor declared him dead at 4:45pm, he added.

The doctor told banglanews24.com.bd that there were marks of several injuries in victim’s foot and black spot in the neck.

SI Kamrul said RAB-1 team arrested Biplob Thursday from city’s Paikpara area of Mirpur in an abduction case and took him to their custody.

“When members of RAB-1 went for Juma prayers, Biplob attempted to commit suicide,” he said, quoting RAB officials.

When contacted, duty officer of RAB-1 did not make any comment regarding this incident.
