Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has assured the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) that the interim government is committed to organizing a free, fair, and transparent election between December 2025 and June 2026.

He said: "We are determined to ensure that this election will be the finest in Bangladesh's history and a significant milestone in the nation's democratic journey." 

Yunus made this remark during a recent meeting with an ANFREL delegation at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The delegation, which included ANFREL Executive Director Brizza Rosales, Consultant for the Bangladesh Elections and Democracy Programme May Butoy, Senior Programme Officer Tharindu Abeyrathna, Programme Officer Ayan Rahman Khan, and Programme Associate Afsana Amey, was welcomed by the Chief Adviser. The meeting was reported by CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

ANFREL, a prominent regional civil society network that has championed electoral democracy in Asia for over 20 years, has been a steadfast advocate for election monitoring, democratic reforms, and citizen engagement throughout the region.

The delegation shared its ongoing efforts in Bangladesh, including the rebuilding of independent, citizen-led election observation systems. They also discussed initiatives for stakeholder mapping and needs assessments to strengthen civil society involvement and enhance electoral transparency.

ANFREL expressed its gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the Chief Adviser and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Bangladeshi stakeholders to support transparent and credible elections.
