Road crashes kill 7, injure 19 across the country

DHAKA: At least seven people were killed and 19 injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Nilphamari and Gopalganj districts Wednesday, as traffic disorder continues to take its daily toll.

Gazipur district correspondent of banglanews reports that at least two people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on Nabinagar-Kaliakore road early Wednesday.

Witnesses said truck coming from opposite direction rammed a Tangail-bound bus of Jhatika Paribahan near the bus-stand in front of the National Bank Foundation in Sadar upazila at around 3am, killing both the driver and the helper of the bus and injuring 15 others.

Sub inspector of Jaydebpur police station Syed Azharul Islam told banglanews the bodies were sent to Gazipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In Rajshahi, at least two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a human hauler locally known as nasimon on Noudapara bypass road near the city in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Quader, 42, and Marfat Ali, 32.

Witnesses said a Naogaon-bound fruit-laden truck crashed into a nosimon at Khaliler crossing on the bypass at about 9am, killing nosimon passenger Quader and its driver Marfad on the spot.
Police seized the truck. However, the driver managed to flee the scene.

Staff Correspondent from banglanews Chittagong bureau reports that one person was crushed under the wheels of a speedy truck in Bahadderhat bus terminal area under Chandgaon Thana in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Shahabuddin, 42, of village Nandigram in Chandanish.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandgaon police station Abu Jafar Mohammad Omar Faruque said Shahabuddin was crashed under the wheels of a speedy truck while trying to get onto the lorry.

Nilphamari correspondent adds: one pedestrian was killed and four others were injured in a road crash on Darwani road in the northern district in the morning. The victim was Abul Kashem, 35.
Nilphamari Thana sources said a Nilphamari-bound pickup van ran down Kashem at around 10am, leaving him dead on the spot.

“The pickup then crashed into a roadside tree while trying to flee following the accident, injuring its four passengers,” police said about the rash driving.

The body was sent to morgue. Police seized the pickup but the driver managed to flee the scene.
Gopalganj correspondent reported that one pedestrian was killed in a road mishap on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Dumuria area in Sadar upazila in the early hours of the day. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Thana Borhanuddin said a tempo knocked him down, leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to Gopalganj Hospital where he died at 6 on Wednesday morning.
