Over 200,000 posts vacant, Ashraf informs parliament

DHAKA: A total of 210,686 posts of officers and employees in public service remained vacant, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam informed parliament Wednesday.

“The process of recruitment for the vacant posts continues as per rule of recruitment and through set formalities,” said the ruling Awami League leader.

Replying to a query from ruling-party lawmaker Talukder Md Yunus in the question hour in parliament, Syed Ashraf informed that the People’s Republic has a total of 12,58,691 posts.

Among those, 10,48,005 posts are filled up. Among those, 95,959 hold first-class posts, 48,487 second class, 700,010 third grade and 2,03,549 fourth class.

Among the 210,686 vacant posts, 35,460 are in the first class, 22,436 second class, 1,06,118 third class and 46,672 fourth class.

The information was placed on the third day of the 6th session of the ninth parliament, with Deputy Speaker Colonel (retd) Shawkat Ali in the chair.
