PATUAKHALI: Three minor girls including two siblings drowned in a pond in Subidkhali village area under Mirzaganj Upazila of the district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as two sisters Marufa Begum, 8 and Maria Begum, 5, daughters of M Fajlul Haque and Mitu, 2, daughter of M Majid Mridha of the area.

Locals said that Maria went missing in a pond adjacent to their residence while she was washing her hands at around 7:00 pm. Later, Marufa also drowned while she jumped into the pond to rescue her sister.

After hour-long search, family members found the floating bodies of two siblings in the pond.

In another incident, Mitu was drowned while she went to have a bath in a pond near to their home with her uncle at around 3:00pm in the same area.

She was rescued and rushed to Mirzaganj Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared her dead.

Mirzaganj Thana Officer-in-Charge Abir Mohammad Hossain confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
