NOAKHALI: The ring leader of Yunus Bahini was killed and eight others were injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and law enforcers at Kalamchar under Hatia Upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Yunus, 38, the ring leader of Yusus Bahini.

The injured were Hatia police station Sub-inspectors Tanvir, Monjur and three others policemen.

District police super Anisur Rahman PPM told banglanews, “On a tip off police went to arrest the gang. Sensing the presence of police, the miscreants opened fire on them. In retaliation, police fired back that triggered a gunfight between two groups.”

At one stage of gunfight, Yunus caught line in the fire, leaving him dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, police recovered a rifle, 12 rounds of bullets from the spot.
