PM opens approach road construction in Oct

MUNSHIGANJ: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work of approach road of Padma Bridge at Jajira pokint I October.

Communications Minister Obaidul Qauder came up with disclosure while visiting old Mawa Ferry Ghat area at around 10:00am Friday.

He said that a TK 7000 crore-tender has been floated for Padma Bridge project implementation. The construction farms expressed keen interest in this regard.

A tender worth Tk 10,000 crore has been called for building the main structure of Padma Bridge. The deadline to finalise the tender has been extended for two months as per request of construction farms, the minister added.

Obaidul Qauder said that a mid-term project for protection of river bank would be started in December and river training project at a cost of Tk 320 crore would be implemented by Bangladesh Bridge Division.

Earlier, the Tk 20,507 crore Padma bridge project was halted after its donors — the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Islamic Development Bank — cancelled their proposed funding, raising an allegation of corruption in the project.
