DHAKA: Centre For Policy Dialogue (CPD) has recommended Tk 6,560 as minimum monthly salary for the readymade garments workers considering expenditure which would be implemented in phases.

The CPD, a think-tank organization of the country, proposed that initially the minimum wage should be Tk 6,560 and in the salary should be Tk 8,216 in second year.

The recommendation came from a dialogue titled ‘Review of the Minimum Wage for the RMG Sector: Analysis and Proposals’ at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Tuesday.

Additional Director (Research) of CPD Khandaker Golam Moazzem read out the proposal on behalf of the organization in the dialogue.

Currently, an entry-level worker gets Tk 3,000 as minimum monthly salary.

As per the recommendation, an entry-level worker will get basic Tk 4,300, house rent Tk 1,720 and medical allowance Tk 540.

The gross salary will stand up at TK 8,200 following a 20 percent increase in the second year, he said.

This amount will help a worker to save something to ensure a better future, after meeting his/her daily necessities, he added.
