Tender terrorism: 6 AL men injured, 10 held in Natore

NATORE: Six activists of the ruling Awami League were wounded in a fierce factional clash over submitting public-works tender on Tuesday noon.

Officials said Tuesday was the last day for submitting a Tk 3 crore tender for public works under Local Government and Engineering Department.

Witnesses said a group led by Sohel Sarker, son of State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarkar, obstructed some AL activists belonging to Sadar Upazila chairman and general secretary of the district Juba League Shariful Islam Shimul group while submitting tender papers at the upazila office.

During the rat race, witnesses said, some six activists from both sides were injured from clubbing and acid throwing.

Of the injured, Madhu, 32, and Sarwar, 35 were rushed to Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital, with acid burns and stabs respectively.

Shafiqul Islam said, ”Some youths of Sohel group barred my supporters from submitting tender papers.”

Sohel Sarker, however, said,” I don’t know the detail of it.”

Deputy police super of Natore Sadar Circle Apple Mahmud said police arrested ten persons and recovered a pistol, a shatter gun and three bullets from their possession.
