AL-BNP clash kills 1, injures 14 in Jhenidah

Jhenidah: One person was killed and 14 others were injured in a violent clash between the activists of ruling Awami League and their opponent BNP at Bhajanagar village in Moheshpur upazila Tuesday.

The dead was identified as Lambu, 30.

Moheshpur thana officer- in-charge Mamun-Or-Rashid said the clash ensued at about 10am when BNP activists barred the supporters of local AL leader Majnu master from felling a tree owned by BNP leader Altaf.

“The two rival groups, both equipped with sticks and lethal weapons, attacked each other, leaving 15 people injured,” says firsthand account of the rioting by village politicos.

Critically injured in the fighting, Lambu, Kalu, Ekramul and Ohidul were rushed to Jessore General Hospital.

As condition of Lambu deteriorated, doctors referred him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. But he gave in on the way.
