DHAKA: Ignoring the protests from people of all walks of life, the government is going to lay foundation stone of much-talked-about Rampal coal-fired power plant in the next month.
The foundation stone of the 1300-MW power plant would be laid on October 22.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Adviser to Prime Minister Dr Toufiq-e-Elahi made the disclosure at a press conference on Wednesday.
Ruling out civil society’s allegation, he said, “We love Sundarbans. Prime Minister also loves it. So, the government will not do anything which will harm to it.”
He added: “Those who are opposing Rampal power station, they are not rationalistic. But we are not emotional and we have taken the project by considering realism.”
The adviser also claimed that the power plant would not affect Sundarbans as the government made study over the project.
