UP chairman shot dead in Jessore

JESSORE: The Chairman of Singhajhuli Union Parishad was shot dead at Chaugachha Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman Mintu, 47, also former Chhatra League president of the district.

Witnesses said Mintu attended a programme organized by teachers of Moshiur Rahman Secondary School at the union in the afternoon.

At one stage, two miscreants rushed to the programme by a motorbike and shot Mintu around 2:45pm, leaving him dead on the spot, said a spot account of the incident.

Sub-Inspector of Chaugachha Thana Prabir told banglanews that the motive behind the murder is yet to know. “Police personnel were deployed at the spot,” he said.

On July 24, 2002, former chairman of the same union, also Awami League leader Ashraf Hossain, was also shot dead by miscreants.

On September 23, an accused of the murder case Atiar Rahman, also Jubo Dal activist, was shot dead by miscreants. There might have linked the killing and counter killing.
