DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against Ramna Thana Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Saidul Haque Bhuiyan in a dowry case filed by his wife.

Judge of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Sadiqul Islam issued the arrest warrant.

On July 31, Mariam Akter Mousumi, wife of the OC, filed a case bringing allegation of assaulting her for Tk 20 lakh dowry.

A judicial probe body of the case submitted a report stating that the allegation against the OC was not proved.

Later, Mousumi filed another appeal against the probe report and the court issued arrested warrant against Saidul taking the case into cognizance.

The case statement reads: the plaintiff got married with the accused on January 28 in 2011. They have a daughter.

The accused demanded Tk 20 lakh dowry for buying a private car and he assaulted the plaintiff when she refused to give him the money.
