BAGERHAT: A Bagerhat court on Thursday awarded death penalty to three people and lifetime imprisonment to another one for their involvement in killing a shrimp trader in the district.
The convicts are Satya Baroi, son of Pulin Baroi, Tapan Majumder, son of Nirmal Majumder, of Chitalmari Upazila and Mushfiqur Rahman Mukul, son of Hedayet Sheikh of Sadar Upazila. The life-timer is Dilip Biswas, son of Nagen Biswas.
Judeg of District and Session Judges Court SM Solaiman passed the order in crowded court in the noon.
The court also found four people innocent and acquitted them from the case.
The case statement reads that the convicts chopped one shrimp trader—Bhupal, son of Jagadish Chandra--severely on November 9 in 2003. Bhapal died on the way to hospital.
Avishek, brother of the slain trader, filed a case the following day. And after a long investigation, police submitted charge sheet against eight people on June 30 in 2004.
Taking deposition of 32 witnesses, the court passed the order.
The death convicts are now fugitive.
