MUNSHIGANJ: After a seven hour halt, traffic movement through the Dhaka-Chittagong highway resumed at around 110:00am Friday as truckers withdrew their blockade.
The gridlock started at about 4:30 am as truckers put barricade on the highway by parking trucks to and fro following Meghna toll plaza officials’ attack on truckers.
Earlier, a 20-kilometre traffic jam was reported at 10:00 am on the busy highway causing immense suffering to hundreds of passengers.
Sources said truckers locked into altercation with toll plaza officials over an over-loaded truck. At one stage of altercation, officials beat up five people including truck driver and helper.
Confirming the matter Bhaberchar highway police Sergeant Saiful Islam told banglanews, “The situation is now under control.”
