Leaders and activists of BNP from different areas have gathered at the rally venue Collectorate Eidgah ground in groups holding processions and chanting slogans.

The venue where the party's divisional rally is set to be held this afternoon (Oct 29) has already been filled up by night.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to address the rally as the chief guest.

BNP people from different adjoining districts started arriving in Rangpur city on Thursday night as plying of buses and minibuses in eight districts of Rangpur division has remained suspended due to transport strike, Banglanews correspondent reports.

Many of them were seen coming to Rangpur through small vehicles like human haulers, auto rickshaws, three-wheelers, motorbikes, and micro-buses. 

On October 27, Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association called for a strike demanding a ban on illegal vehicles, including three-wheelers, on the highway and an end to administrative harassment on Rangpur-Kurigram Road.

The strike started at 6am October 28 and will continue till 6pm on October 29.

However, BNP showed a massive crowd amid a strike at the Khulna rally on October 22.
