By-polls to Faridupur-2 constituency is underway with electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Voting started at 8:00am today (Nov 5), which will continue till 4pm without any break.
The constituency, which encompasses Nagarkanda, Saltha and Sadarpur upazilas, fell vacant after the death of deputy leader of Parliament and Awami League presidium Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
Awami League nominated candidate Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury, the youngest son of Sajeda, and Bangladesh Khelafat Movement candidate Md Zainul Abedin alias Bakul Miah Abul are contesting from this constituency.
The voter turnout at the polling station is low, Banglanews correspondent reports.
Some 1,052 close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed at 123 polling centres.
The chief election commissioner (CEC) and other commissioners are monitoring the voting from Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
According to Faridpur election officer sources, there are 3,18,479 voters in Faridpur-2 constituency.
