10 injured in Jhenaidah BNP-Chhatra League clash

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between BNP and Chhatra League leaders and activists in Jhenaidah.

The clash broke out in the old DC Court area of the city on Monday (Nov 7) afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said district Chhatra League brought out a procession from Government KC College on the occasion of 'Freedom Fighter-Soldiers' Killing Day'. On the other hand, the leaders and activists of BNP continued to gather at Jhenaidah Press Club premises marking 'Revolution and Solidarity Day'.

When the Chhatra League procession reached in front of the old DC Court of the city, the clash started with the BNP leaders and activists coming from the other side, eyewitnesses added.

Jubo League convenor Ashfaq Mahmud John said, "When our leaders and activists (Chhatra League) were carrying out a peaceful march, suddenly BNP leaders and activists ambushed there, leaving several of our activists injured".

District BNP president Advocate MA Majid said, "We were carrying out the program peacefully. Chhatra League activists attacked there". 

He also denied the vandalism of Jubo League leader's business establishment to reporters.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Abul Bashar confirmed the matter.

He said that the situation is currently under control. However, additional police have been deployed in the city to prevent any further incident.
