Hartal enters day-3 amid violence

DHAKA: The 60-hour countrywide non-stop hartal, called by 18-party alliance, is underway on Wednesday for third consecutive day amid stray incidents of blast, vandalism and arson.

The alliance is observing the shutdown demanding restoration of poll-time non-party caretaker government.

In the capital, at least seven people were injured as Jamaat-Shibir men blasted cocktails in Shajadpur area of Gulshan of the city at around 6:00am.

Witnesses said that hartal supporters brought out a procession in the area and blasted 8-10 cocktails.

On the other hand, four cocktails were exploded in Sonargaon intersection at around 7:40am. But none was reportedly injured in the incident.

While Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a pro-hartal procession in city’s Banasree area at around 7:20am and set fire to street by pouring petrol.

Police, however, held a Shibir man from the spot.

Violence in 2nd day of hartal

At least 251 people were injured in separate clashes among police, BNP-Jamaat and Awami League across the country on Tuesday.

Besides, 54 people were held in different districts during picketing and conducting subversive acts.

Hartal supporters also hurled dozens of cocktails in across the country and vandalized numbers of vehicles.

Violence in 1st day of hartal

At least five people were killed and around hundreds injured during the first day of 60-hour nonstop countrywide shutdown, began at 6.00am Monday.
