60-hr hartal marked amid stray violence

DHAKA: The 60-hour nonstop hartal called by BNP-led 18-party alliance observed on Thursday evening amid stray violence and killing.

Pickets vandalized and torched vehicles and blasted cocktails across the country.

Hartal supporters locked into clash with law enforcers and Awami League men, leaving around hundreds injured all over the country during in the final day of hartal.

Violence in 2nd day of hartal:

At least 251 people were injured in separate clashes among police, BNP-Jamaat and Awami League across the country on Tuesday, the second day of 18-party 60-hour hartal.

Besides, 54 people were held in different districts during picketing and conducting subversive acts.

Hartal supporters also hurled dozens of cocktails in across the country and vandalized numbers of vehicles.

Injured

In Munshiganj, at least 70 people were injured in a clash among BNP, Awami League and police in Sreenagar and Sirajdikhan Upazilas of the district at round 8:30am.

In Rajshahi, 20 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were injured in a clash with police in Kharkhori bypass of the divisional city at around 9:30am.

In Bogra, at least 25 people were injured as hartal supporters threw cocktails and brick-chips at a mail train at Bogra railway station at around 8:15 am.

In Khulna, 10 leaders and activists of BNP were injured in a clash with Awami League men in the district.

In Chandpur, at least 30 people were injured in AL-BNP clash in Sadar upazila at around 11:30pm.

In Satkhira, two Awami League men were injured in an attack of Shibir men while 10 picketers were injured in a clash with police in Ashasuni Upazila of the district at around 10:00am.

In capital, two Juba League men were injured when Shibir attack in an anti-hartal rally Juba League in the city.  

In Tangail, five picketers were injured in clash with cops in Ghatail Upazila of the district.

In Chittagong, two journalists were injured in a cocktail explosion in a pro-hartal procession at around 8:00am.  

In Comilla, 35 people were injured in a clash with AL-BNP-Jamaat in Chouddagram upazila at around 12:30pm.

In Thakurgaon: At least 25 people including a police officer, journalists were injured in a fierce clash between Awami League and BNP in the district town on Tuesday noon.

In Laxmipur: At least 11 people were injured in a triangle clash among Awami League, BNP and police.

In Khulsi: Two kids were injured by cocktails blasted by hartal supporters at Khulsi in the port city.

In Noakhali: Two Awami League activists were injured as Shibir activists attacked them at Senbagh upazila of the district.

Held

Police held 38 BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men in the capital, eight picketers in Chittagong, seven hartal supporters in Faridpur, three Shibir men in Rajshahi, one in Rupganj of Narayanganj, six in Bawfal of Patuakhali, four BNP men in Horinakundu, four Jubo Dal activists in Rupganj, two JCD leaders in Gazaria  and three Jamaat-Shibir men in Brahmenbaria.

Law enforcement agency personnel including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), DB Police and Police have been seen alert in various lanes and by-lanes including the thoroughfares of the city and the country.

Violence in 1st day of hartal

At least five people were killed and around hundreds injured during the first day of 60-hour nonstop countrywide shutdown, began at 6.00am Monday.
