Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) started its divisional mass rally in Cumilla on Saturday (Nov 26).
Cumilla city unit of BNP arranged the rally that formally began at 11:05am at Cumilla Town Hall ground through recitation from the Quran.
Today is the party's eights rally in the divisional (Cumilla) city. Earlier BNP held divisional rallies in Chattogram, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rangpur, Barishal, Faridpur and Sylhet.
BNP is holding rallies in divisional cities one after another Protesting the price hike of daily essentials and fuels, the death of five party men in previous police action and ensuring the freedom of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Thousands of leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies joined the rally this morning smoothly as there was no transport strike this time.
They gathered at the rally venue from different upazilas of Cumilla and adjoining districts, including Brahmanbaria and Chandpur.
An adequate number of police and security officials have been deployed around the rally venue and at different points of the town to prevent any untoward situation.
BNP senior leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and some standing committee members, are expected to address the rally.
BNP's Cumilla metropolitan unit convenor Utbatul Bari Abu said they have kept the first two chairs on the stage empty for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
BNP leaders and activists were seen chanting slogans to press home their demands and denouncing the government.
The entire city of Cumilla wore a festive look with colourful banners, festoons, posters and billboards set up on the occasion of the rally.
