Security has been beefed up at Nayapaltan in capital ahead of Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) December 10 divisional mass rally.

Additional members of the law enforcement agencies, including a few platoons of police, have been deployed near BNP's central party office on Wednesday (Dec 7) morning.

The venue of the rally is not yet decided. Meanwhile, Additional police, decorated vehicles and water cannons have been kept at Fakirapool and Nightingale intersection on both sides of the Nayapaltan entrance.

When asked regarding this matter, Motijheel Zone DC Hayatul Islam Khan said: "DMP gave permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. BNP and its leaders and activists have to gather there. Otherwise, the law enforcement agencies will remain firm in their position."

Replying to a question about discussions underway for holding the rally at an alternative venue, he said: "We have not received any such instructions so far."

They will have to hold the rally at the allotted venue till a new place is found, the official said, adding that law enforcement agencies will give all the support in this regard, the official added.
