BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas and other party leaders have sought bail today in a case filed over the clash between BNP activists and police in the capital's Nayapaltan area on Wednesday (Dec 7).
Joynal Abedin Mesbah, counsel for BNP leaders’ confirmed the matter today.
He said that they filed appeals to the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury around 11 am.
On Dec 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas to jail in the case, rejecting their bail petitions.
The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on Dec 8, after a conflict took place on Dec 7 between BNP men and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office.
On Dec 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas.
