A Dhaka court today rejected the bail petitions of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas among 224 party people in a case filed over the Dec 7 clash between law enforcers and BNP men in Dhaka's Nayapaltan area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin Ahmed passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on Dec 11, Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas and others sought bail appeals to the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.
Later, the court fixed today for the hearing.
Meanwhile, BNP is set to stage a demonstration in the capital on Tuesday (Dec 13) protesting the arrest of the party leaders and activists including its Secretary General and the police action at their central office.
On Dec 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas to jail in the case, rejecting their bail petitions.
The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on Dec 8, after a conflict took place on Dec 7 between BNP men and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office.
On Dec 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas.
