GM Quader was again barred from performing his duties as Jatiya Party chairman as the appellate division today (Dec 14) upheld the verdict of a lower court on Wednesday.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foyez Siddiqui passed the order.
Besides, the bench also asked Dhaka Joint District Judge’s Court to quickly dispose of the petition filed by Quader against its verdict.
Sheikh Mohammad Sirajul Islam stood for GM Quader during the hearing while Sayed Ahmed Raja represented petitioner Ziaul Haque Mridha.
On November 30, the Appellate Division stayed till December 5 a High Court order that allowed GM Quader to conduct normal party activities.
Justice M Enayetur Rahman of Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court passed the order, after holding hearing on a plea, challenging the November 29 High Court order.
The court also sent the matter to Appellate Division regular bench for further hearing.
Jatiya Party suspended leader and former lawmaker Ziaul Haque Mridha filed the writ and Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Raza moved the plea before the court.
A High Court division bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal stayed till January 3 a lower court order that had imposed temporally ban on party activities of GM Quader.
On November 16, the court of Dhaka 1st Joint District Judge Masudul Haque had passed the order, scrapping a plea of Quader, challenging an earlier order in this regard.
The court also set November 30 for submitting reply in writing and holding further hearing on the matter.
Party's suspended leader and former lawmaker Ziaul Haque Mridha filed the case against Quader on October 4 and the court on October 31 had issued the initial order, asking him to refrain from party activities.
