BNP leaders, activists being treated inhumanely in jail: Prince

Syed Emran Saleh Prince, organising secretary of BNP today (Dec 23) alleged that the party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas and others are being treated inhumanely.

He also alleged that the imprisoned leaders are being locked up for almost 24 hours and tortured mentally.

Syed Emran Saleh Prince, also acting office secretary, made the allegations at a press conference at party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Friday. 

He further claim that many of the senior leaders are suffering from diseases including high blood pressure and diabetes and they were taking treatment home and abroad for quite a long time.

Syed Emran Saleh Prince said, “They deserve bail but they are denied again and again. They are not getting bail as per government order.” 

“We demanded unconditional and immediate release of the party's imprisoned leaders and activists,” he added. 

Earlier on December 23, A Dhaka court rejected the bail petitions of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas for the fourth time in a case filed over the December 7 clash between law enforcers and BNP men in Dhaka's Nayapaltan area.

Earlier on December 8, Police filed a case against around 2,000 BNP leaders and activists over December 7 clash between the party men and police at the capital.

On December 7, Mokbul Hossain, the joint convener of Pallabi ward no. 5, was killed and many others were injured in front of Nayapaltan BNP Central Office during the clash among the police and activists of the BNP.

Later, 450 BNP leaders and activists including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Party Vice Chairman Amanullah Aman were arrested from Naya Paltan on that day.
