The High Court (HC) today (Jan 3) granted six-month bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas in a case filed over the December 7 clashes between party activists and police in the capital's Nayapaltan area.
The HC bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan issued the bail order on Tuesday.
On January 2, their lawyers submitted a petition to the HC seeking their bail in the case.
In the same case, Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas have earlier been denied bail four times by the lower courts.
On December 9, 2022, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas to jail in the case, rejecting their bail petitions.
The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on Dec 8, after a conflict took place on December 7 between BNP men and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office.
On December 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas.
