The state filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's bail order for BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas in a case filed over the Nayapaltan clashes between party activists and police.
Additional attorney general SM Munir told the journalist on Wednesday (Jan 4).
Earlier on January 3, the High Court granted six-month bail to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas in a case involving the clash on occurred on December 7, 2022.
The HC bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan issued the bail order on Tuesday.
On January 2, their lawyers submitted a petition to the HC seeking their bail in the case.
In the same case, Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas have earlier been denied bail four times by the lower courts.
On December 9, 2022, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas to jail in the case, rejecting their bail petitions.
The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on Dec 8, after a conflict took place on December 7 between BNP men and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office.
On December 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and Mirza Abbas.
