Law enforcement agencies are on high alert across the capital to avert any chaotic situation in connection to Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) mass sit-in programme.
BNP's leaders and activists started to protest in front of the party's central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Wednesday (Jan 11).
Additional police have been deployed in Nayapaltan, Kakrail, Bijoy Nagar, Paltan and Motijheel areas since morning. Besides, water cannons, armored vehicles, prison vans are also kept ready to face any untoward situation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hayatul Islam Khan confirmed the matter.
BNP has been allowed to hold the rally peacefully, he said, additional police have been deployed for ensuring public safety and avoiding any chaotic situation.
