BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been admitted to a hospital in Dhaka this morning.

The senior leader of the party was admitted to Evercare Hospital at 10:30 am, said Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson's media wing. 

Fakhrul was admitted to the hospital following doctors' advice as he fell sick recently while he was in jail, Shairul added. 

On January 9, 2023, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas walked out of jail, a month after they were arrested in a case filed over Nayapaltan clashes on December 9.

On December 9, 2022, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir to jail in the case, rejecting his bail petitions.

The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on December 8, 2022, following the December 7 clash between BNP men and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office. 

On December 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir.
