BNP and its like-minded political parties staged protest processions and rallies in metropolitan cities and upazila headquarters across the country today (Jan 16).
They held countrywide protest programmes to realise their 10-point demands, including a reduction in the electricity tariff.
As per schedule, BNP started a protest rally in front of the party's central office in Nayapaltan in the capital at 2pm.
Party men joined the rally to press home their 10-point demand, which includes holding the national election under a non-partisan interim government and reducing prices of power.
BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was present as chief guest at the programme in Dhaka.
Ganatantra Manch, an alliance of seven political parties, held a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 11:30pm while Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) faction in front of its central office near FDC at 2pm.
Jatiyatabadi Shamamana Jote, an 11-party coalition, held a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 2pm while another combine, Ganatantrik Bam Oikya, a four-party alliance, held a protest rally at the same place at 10:30am.
The parties also brought out processions and staged rallies in other metropolitan cities and upazila headquarters across the country.
Party sources said BNP is likely to announce a fresh agitation programme from today’s demonstration.
