A Dhaka court has turned down an appeal from BNP leader Nazim Uddin Alam to file a case against 10 police officials, including Harun-Or-Rashid, chief of the detective branch of police, for allegedly vandalising the party's Nayapaltan office and looting valuables on December 7 last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order on Sunday.
Earlier today, Nazim Uddin Alam, a member of BNP’s executive committee and a former lawmaker, filed a petition in a Dhaka court to register a case against ten police officials for vandalising the party's Nayapaltan office and looting valuables on December 7, 2022.
Besides, 200 to 300 unidentified policemen were also requested to be made accused.
The nine others police officials are Additional Commissioner of Police of Counter Terrorism Unit Asaduzzaman, Joint Commissioner of DB South Sanjit Kumar Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Ramna) Biplab Kumar Das, DMP Joint Commissioner Mehdi Hasan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Dr Mahid Uddin, Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Motijheel) Hayatul Islam Khan, DMP Motijheel Zone AC Ghulam Rouhani and Al Amin alias Mahidur Rahman, who openly opened fire while wearing the jersey of Argentina football team.
Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar was present in favor of the plaintiff before the court. Besides, Pro-BNP lawyers were also present at the court.
Advocate HM Masum, former office secretary of Dhaka Bar Association and assistant legal secretary of Krishak Dal confirmed the matter.
Earlier on December 7, 2022, a Swechchasebak Dal leader was killed and more than 50 others were injured in a clash between police and the BNP activists in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office, ahead of its December 10 rally.
Police arrested around 450 BNP leaders and activists, including the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, former Chhatra Dal president Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas following the BNP-police clash.
