A Dhaka court today 9 (Jan 22) granted bail to BNP leader Ishraque Hossain in a sabotage lawsuit filed with Motijheel police station.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Arfatul Rakib passed the order on Sunday.
Earlier today, Ishraque surrendered before the court through his lawyer and applied for bail.
Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar was present in favor of the Ishraque during the hearing before the court. The state lawyer opposed the bail petition. After hearing both sides, the court granted the bail order.
Earlier on December 5, 2022, a Dhaka court issued the arrest warrant against former mayoral candidate of Dhaka South City Corporation, Ishraque in an arson case filed with Motijheel Police Station in November 2020.
Ishraque was arrested on April 6 last year in the same case while distributing leaflets protesting the price hike of essentials.
Later, he was released on bail on April 12, 2022.
The prosecution alleged that a group of leaders led by Ishraque gathered in front of Bangladesh Bank Colony intending to carry out subversive activities in Motijheel’s area on November 12, 2020.
Later a case was filed under the Special Powers Act-1974 against Ishraque and 31 others with Motijheel Police Station.
