DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, also former President categorically said people would call him traitor if his party participates in the elections under Awami League government.

He came up with the observation while addressing Jatiyo Jubo Songhoti Council, a front organization of Jatiyo Party at city’s Institution of Engineers’ auditorium on Saturday noon.

HM Ershad said, “People would say that I participate in general polls to help corrupted Awami League government to assume power next. They would call traitor.”

The former President also said: “There will be one-sided election if we do not participate. That government might stay in power for one year or so. I don’t know, what will happen then.”

He added that there were three ways to change the government: vote, military coup and armed revolution.

Which one will people choose? He posed the question.

Ershad again added that the grand alliance was no more active and they would declare to leave the alliance formally soon.

He further said that people had welcomed his declaration to form a new alliance.

Jatiyo Party presidium member GM Quader, Advocate Kazi Firoz Rashid, general secretary Ruhul Amin Hawlader also addressed the council.
