Barrister Fakhrul on 4-day remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court placed Barrister Fakhrul Islam, a lawyer of convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, on a four-day remand for police interrogation.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Emdadul Haque passed the order in connection with a case filed for leaking out the draft verdict in the case against BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Detective branch of police arrested Barrister Fakhrul from his Segunbagicha chamber in the city on Wednesday for leaking of war crimes verdict against Salauddin Quader.

Earlier on Thursday, Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Md Shahjahan, also the investigation officer of the case, filed a petition with a seven-day remand prayer.

Lawyer Nazrul Islam Shamim moved for the remand plea while  Barrister Aminul Haque, Advocate Sanaullah Mia, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Golam Mostafa Khan stood against the remand plea.

On October 10, two staffers of International Crimes Tribunal –Noyon Ali and Faruk—gave confessional statement before the court.

DB police arrested the tow ICT staffs on October 4 in this connection and court granted 8-day remand of them on October 5.

On October 1, International Crimes Tribunal-1 awarded death penalty to BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
