GAZIPUR: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by the upazila BNP, is underway in Kapasia on Tuesday, amid stray incidents of picketing.

The party is enforcing the general strike protesting the arrest of party’s standing committee member Brigadier General (Retd) ASM Hannan Shah.

Upazila BNP called for the hartal on Monday night.

BNP supporters set fire on the roads using straw and woods in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Kapasia Thana M Ahsan told banglanews police took enough preparations to keep the law and order situation in the upazila under control.

On Monday night, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) nabbed former MP Hannan Shah of Kapasia from the Notun Bazar area of Dhaka.
