The High Court today (May 30) upheld a 2007 special anti-graft court verdict that sentenced BNP leader Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku to nine years in jail for for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information in his wealth statement.
An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khijir Hayat pronounced the judgment.
The court also ordered him to surrender within two weeks before a trial court.
ACC Deputy Director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed a case against Tuku and his family on March 21, 2007 with Mohammadpur Police Station on charges of illegally acquiring Tk 49.61 million worth of assets and concealing income-related information in his wealth statement.
On November 16, 2007, the special anti-graft court sentenced former state minister for power Tuku to seven years' rigorous and two years' simple imprisonment in the case.
