A Rajshahi court today (May 30) again placed BNP's district convener Abu Sayeed Chand on a three-day remand in a case filed on charges of issuing a ‘death threat’ to prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a public rally.
Judge Mahbub Alam of Rajshahi Judicial Magistrate Court-4 passed the order.
Earlier, the police applied for a 10-day remand. After the hearing court granted three days' remand.
Rajshahi District Police Court Inspector Parimal Kumar confirmed the matter.
Earlier on May 25, a Rajshahi court placed Abu Sayeed Chand on a five-day remand in the case.
A Magura court on May 24 issued an arrest warrant against Abu Sayeed Chand in a case filed over threatening to kill Sheikh Hasina.
Magura Jubo League Convener Fazlur Rahman filed the case with the court of a magistrate under the Digital Security Act.
The court then issued the arrest warrant and directed police to record the complaint as a first information report.
Earlier on 19 May, Abu Sayeed Chand reportedly made the threat at a rally organised by the BNP Rajshahi district and city units to demonstrate against harassment and arrests of the opposition activists in various fictitious cases and government corruption.
Later, several cases were filed against Abu Sayeed Chand under the Anti-Terrorism Act for his alleged death threat to Sheikh Hasina.
