GAIBANDHA: Five people were killed and 40 others injured after derailment of an express train as miscreants removed fishplates of rail line near to Bonarpara rail station in the district early Wednesday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Railway sources said four compartments including engine of the Padmarag Express train veered off the track at around 1:30am as blockaders uprooted some fishplates of rail line in the district.

Bonarpara railway thana officer-in-charge Saidur Rahman confirmed the death of three people. But locals claimed that five people were killed in the accident.
