Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today (July 11) said BNP announced a one-point demand to oust the government but the people of Bangladesh turned their faces from the party.
He also said the only path for a change of government in the country is through elections.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at an activists' rally organized by the Awami League at the TCB Auditorium in Karwan Bazar of the capital.
Urging the activists to understand that the unity of the people is the strongest force, the minister said there is no power greater than the power of the people, a belief held by the Awami League.
Regarding domestic and foreign conspiracies, the minister also said: "Bangladesh has witnessed the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975, and we have seen the burning and looting in 2014. All remember the rise of extremism. Now, we all want to take Bangladesh forward together. No vested interest can succeed through conspiracy."
Quoting former US President Barack Obama, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "If you want to see progress, look at Bangladesh."
"The government of Sheikh Hasina is leading Bangladesh towards uninterrupted progress, which is our dream. We have achieved the impossible. In 2008, Sheikh Hasina wanted to bring about change in Bangladesh, and we have accomplished that," the home minister added.
Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League president Sheikh Bajlur Rahman presided over the programme which was moderated by general secretary SM Mannan Kochi.
However, leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League spoke at the programme.
