Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader on Saturday (July 22) said as the ruling AL government can manipulate the electoral system, fair elections are not possible under this government.
He said: "The election system should always be kept outside the purview of the government. The electoral system must be independent. Whoever comes to power has tried to keep the electoral system under their control."
Quader, also the opposition leader, made these remarks while replying to a question at Banani office in the capital.
The current government has taken complete control of the election system, he said, adding in the election commission, the government has appointed their own representatives, who will be loyal to the party.
"Some laws have been reformed recently, so that they have full control of elections. A fair election can never be feasible in such a situation, as has previously and repeatedly been proven," he said.
Such elections cannot be termed as elections of people's vote, it is rather elections announced by the government or the Election Commission, he also said.
"It can be termed as "Awamicracy" against democracy. In such a reality, fair election is not possible, it may lead to selection against the election," Quader added.
Jatiya Party Chairman's Press Secretary and Jatiya Cultural Party Vice President Khandkar Delwar Jalali were present at this time.
