Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alom, who was an independent candidate in the Dhaka-17 by-elections, appealed to the Election Commission (EC) today (July 23) demanding a re-vote.
He told journalists after submitting a written application to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Sunday July (July 23).
The election was not fair. They casted voted fake on that day. I have video footage of 12 to 13 year old boys and girls voted and a girl voted 10 to 15, he added.
They were sent to the polling station forcefully. I have submitted that video footage to the CEC. I want to cancel this result. I am here for re-election, added Hero Alom.
Hero Alom came under attack around 3:20 pm on 17 July after he visited the polling centre at Banani's Bidyaniketan School and College grounds.
Meanwhile, western countries condemned the assault on Hero Alom.
The high commissioners and ambassadors of the United Kingdom, United States, the delegation of the European Union, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, in a joint statement on July 18, condemned the attack on Hero Alom.
Besides, the United Nations has also expressed concern over the attack on Hero Alam.
Amnesty International has also condemned the assault on Hero Alom.
