A Narsingdi court has issued arrest warrant against BNP leader Khairul Kabir Khokon who is a prime accused of two Narsingdi Chhatra Dal leader murder case.
District and Sessions judge Mushtaq Ahmed issued the arrest warrant on Thursday (July 27).
Narsingdi court's police inspector Md Delwar Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the matter.
He said Khokon was scheduled to appear at the court on Thursday. As he didn't appear, the court issued the arrest warrant.
Defendant's lawyer Advocate Shafiqul Islam said Khokon was scheduled to appear at the lower court today (Thursday) following the expiry of four weeks' bail he received from the High Court. But, he prayed to the court through his lawyer seeking more time stating that he suffered from illness. The court rejected his prayer.
On May 25, a demonstration broke out on the district linked to formation of Narsingdi district JCD committee. During the demonstration JCD leaders Sadequr Rahman and Ashraful Islam were shot dead.
Later, a case was filed with Narsingdi Model Police Station against 30 people including BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon and his wife Shirin Sultana, and some 35 to 40 unknown accused.
Sadequr's elder brother Altaf Hossain filed the case.
