The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday (July 29) said that at least 90 BNP leaders and activists have been arrested in connection with clashes with the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of DMP Media and Public Relations Department Md Farooq Hossain confirmed the matter.
He also said that at least 20 police personnel were injured as BNP members attacked them as well as set fire to vehicles, defying the DMP's ban on today's sit-in programme.
Faruque also noted that efforts are underway to apprehend other BNP members involved in today's clash.
Earlier, BNP activists and law enforcers locked in a clash at different parts in the capital including Dholaikhal, Matuail, Shyamoli and Jatrabari while observing the sit-in programme to press home its demand for holding the election under a caretaker government.
Earlier on July 28, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the party and the other like-minded opposition political parties would hold sit-in programmes at all the Dhaka entry points on Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
